Latest Update at Vitalis Family Medical Practice

Updated 27 March 2020

Dear All,

The team at Vitalis Family Medical Practice would like to say a huge thanks for everyone's patience and understanding during this challenging time. Over the last number of weeks, we have had to make significant changes to the way we deliver care to our patients and we may need to make further changes as the situation develops.

Australia, and the World, are currently facing an unprecedented Health, Social and Economic challenge in dealing with the Coronavirus Pandemic. At Vitalis our goal is to keep both our Patients and Team as safe as possible and to limit the spread of the Virus whilst continuing to provide high quality healthcare to our patients throughout. To this end we are encouraging our patients to only attend the Practice if it is necessary and we are screening all patients for respiratory symptoms. We have started consulting patients over the telephone and we plan to do this as much as possible over the next few months. If you need to speak to Doctor for any reason, please consider calling the practice and asking for a Telephone Consultation. Medicare has allowed some people to be bulk billed for Telephone Consultations (categories listed below) and for everyone else we will provide these for a small fee. Please understand that we must do this to keep Vitalis viable and operational. We also understand that in the months ahead there will be many of our patients that will suffer significant financial hardship and will be unable to pay for Telephone consultations. We expect that Medicare will soon move to allow Bulk Billing for all patients for Telephone consultation, however this is not currently available. For any of our regular patients we are committed to not allowing financial hardship to be a barrier to receiving care. Please speak with your regular Doctor if you are experiencing financial hardship and they may be able to help.

Our aim is to keep our waiting room free from any respiratory illness so that we can continue to provide safe care for our patients. Any patients with recent travel or direct contact with a suspected or confirmed case of Coronavirus or any patient with symptoms of fever, cough, sore throat, runny or blocked nose or fever will be asked to speak to a Doctor on the telephone before coming to the practice. Most minor viral illnesses can be managed at home with advice and over the counter medications if required. If you are in any way concerned that you need to be seen, then speak to our Doctors on the phone.

As of Monday 30 March, Vitalis Family Medical Practice is offering bulk-billed telephone consultations which is available to all patients. Please phone 02 8123 1133 to book an appointment with one of our doctors.

If you have a respiratory illness and, after speaking to one of our Doctors on the phone, it is decided that you need to be seen at the clinic we will ask you to Telephone reception from your car when you arrive at the clinic. We kindly request that you wear a mask if you have one, otherwise please advise our receptionists who will bring you a surgical mask to wear and we ask you to wait in your car until your Doctor is ready to see you. When the Doctor is ready, they will call your phone and ask you to enter the practice through the side entrance (where the elevator lobby). This way we can minimise any potential exposure to any patients in the waiting room.

Thank you for your understanding.
